New Mayor Installed at AGM

The Annual Meeting of Normanton Town Council on Tuesday 11th May saw Councillor Elaine Blezard elected to the office of Mayor for the 2010-11 municipal year. Elaine will be supported by her husband Steve and her daughter Lisa over the next twelve months.
Elaine is no stranger to the civic role having already served as Mayoress to her father, Councillor T G Jordan in 1997/8.
It has been a rather hectic week for Elaine who was re-elected to serve on the District Council on 6th May, which was also her birthday.
Elaine will be supported by her Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mrs Denise Clay and the Deputy Consort, Councillor Richard Clay.
The Mayor will be available to attend functions throughout the year and contact should be made with the office in the first instance.

Thanks to Outgoing Mayor

Thanks have been paid to Councillor Mike Burch and his wife Christine who have served the Town well as Mayor and Mayoress of Normanton for the last twelve months. They have done an excellent job as ambassadors for Normanton and Altofts and have raised over £4,000 for the Mayors Charity. Councillor Mike Burch chose to support a variety of local good causes in addition to the national Help for Heroes Charity.
Mike and Christine look back on the last twelve months with very happy memories despite Mike's illness in December. They have met many wonderful people at different groups and organisations and have always been given a friendly welcome.

Snow brings Normanton to a standstill!

The recent snowfall has caused chaos on the towns roads with reports of a jack-knifed lorry on Wakefield Road on Tuesday as well as several abandoned cars around the town. The District Council are concentrating on clearing the primary routes and further information can be obtained from their website www.wakefield.gov.uk . The best advice is to stay at home unless your journey is essential and to check before trying to travel to appointments with hospital and doctors etc as appointments are being cancelled in non emergency cases.
School closure information is also available from the District Council website and from Ridings FM www.ridingsfm.co.uk .
For gritting requests you should telephone 0845 8 506 506 who will deal with requests in order of urgency.
